As I Grew Older...

Langston Hughes....one of the stars of my youth...

As I Grew Older
It was a long time ago.
I have almost forgotten my dream.
But it was there then,
In front of me,
Bright like a sun--
My dream.
And then the wall rose,
Rose slowly,
Slowly,
Between me and my dream.
Rose until it touched the sky--
The wall.
Shadow.
I am black.
I lie down in the shadow.
No longer the light of my dream before me,
Above me.
Only the thick wall.
Only the shadow.
My hands!
My dark hands!
Break through the wall!
Find my dream!
Help me to shatter this darkness,
To smash this night,
To break this shadow
Into a thousand lights of sun,
Into a thousand whirling dreams
Of sun!

Rain, rain, beautiful rain...

Hello friends, I thought I'd get back on the blogging this season and give my thoughts some letters. ...This morning I woke up to the rain...I don't think you can beat the sound of hard falling rain. When I was younger I used to be obsessed with the 'rain maker' instrument in school, Big up to all the people who know what I'm talking about!! I just thought that it was the most beautiful sound, maybe I can convince 'The Free' to include it in one of our songs soon ;-) Rain really is a magical thing, the way it falls from the skies...it's also a lot more lovely when you have an umbrella, or a roof that isn't leaky, or a car... anyway, I hope your day is covered in lovely drops of water that make music all the day through...If your hatin' on the rain then hopefully this song can help you love it a little more, here's one of my favourites...

The last cuppa....for now

Hey people! I am a little late in posting about one of the most special days I've had so far, so apologies for that, but I have been tired!.... The final date of The Ginger Tea Tour was on Sunday and my oh my it was lovely :-) We arrived on time (as usual!!haha!) and set up our gear, and at this point I was starting to get a 'dab on' as my husband puts it (aka I was sweating) as there were already a handful of people in the shop, and it was becoming apparent that as people started to arrive, it would become increasingly difficult to find any space... We were sooo overwhelmed with all the support that you all gave us, and it was an emotional moment when I looked around and OUTSIDE the cafe, and saw a whole heap of people, packed into one of the cosiest tea shops in all of Haggerston, listening to us share with all of you! I want to say a HUGE thank you to all the people who made The Ginger Tea Tour possible namely: The Arts Council, Rachel Nelken, Miranda Suit, Lakwena Maciver, Sammy Gunnell, Melo, Alimah Sitta, Haggerston Tea Rooms, Healthy Stuff, The Vortex downstairs, Brewode's Cornucopia, Leila's Shop, The Counter Cafe, Mouse & De Lotz, Lock 7, Platform Cafe, The Grocery & Moreti's. Without all your help we would not have been able to pull of this tour, so thank you!! We have had a blast, and I have learnt a small part of the art of perseverance! Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more from the Abimaro & The Free camp....check this amazing video out all about The Ginger Tea Tour.....special thanks to Proud Foot for this beautiful video :-) Big up to ED!!

Leila's & Moreti's!

Hello folks, Sorry that this update is coming a few days later than expected, but what can I say?....I've been busy! So Abimaro & The Free were at Leila's shop on Wednesday, and we absolutely LOVED it! It's incredible to have been given the opportunity by The Arts Council to do this tour, we just rock up at these amazing coffee shops and share our hearts, and it's fantastic. Every shop on the tour has been totally unique and beautiful! Moreti's was EPIQUE! WOW! Let's just say that we had a mixture of technical and "homely" difficulties, but were then overwhelmed by the love that everyone who came down gave us! It was amazing to have such a small space rammed with such lovely people...who would have known that a basement in Hoxton would be such a great place to share! BIG love to everyone who came down to both gigs, and if you didn't make it then you still have one LAST chance to see Abimaro & The Free on The Ginger Tea Tour. We will be at Haggerston Tea Rooms,224 Haggerston Road,London,E8 4HT from 7pm this Sunday 6th May...Please come down and share a cuppa with us as we say farewell to this part of the adventure! See you there! Xx

Brew me,in Brewode's Cornucopia

Hello all! So yesterday marked the beginning of the last week in Abimaro & The Free's Ginger Tea Tour....It was amazing!! To be honest it was one of the best so far I reckon...I absolutely love 'Mama' Louise who kindly let us take over her beautiful cafe! Louise's cafe 'Brewode's Cornucopia' is a corner of fun, love and the prettiest assortment of sweets and gifts you have ever seen arranged so carefully in a powder blue room of loveliness! We had a gorgeous crowd of new and old friends of Abimaro & The Free come down to support, and it was an absolute pleasure to share all our songs and stories with everyone....so thank you if you swung on by, and if you didn't then do not fear!!! We will be at our next exquisite coffee shop tomorrow (Wednesday) in Leila's Shop in Shoreditch, 17 Calvert Avenue, London,E2 7JP from 11-12 am. So for all you free-lancers or people 'in-between' jobs, or mummy's or anyone and everyone...swing on down!! We would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see youxx

The Grocery

Hey guys, Today Abimaro & The Free hit The Grocery! I love this place, it's a really beautiful shop with a hidden cafe at the back, in a brick tunnel that shakes when the trains run over it... We had a bit of a tough journey to The Grocery this morning because the rain flooded part of the motorway! But nevertheless we battled through the downpour and sang it all out...a big thank you to everyone who came out and supported us. I can't thank you all enough for the support that you give to Abimaro & The Free, your support and the time you take to listen to our music means so much....so thank you and keep listening :-) x
